About the position

The Google Pixel team is dedicated to designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience, focusing on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services. This role as a Research Scientist in Voice and Audio Algorithms involves working with some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. The position requires a strong emphasis on bringing together Google's artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to create transformative experiences for users globally. The successful candidate will be at the forefront of innovation in speech, language, and conversational AI, contributing to both fundamental and applied research in these areas. As a Research Scientist, you will be responsible for designing and developing cutting-edge speech algorithms and systems utilizing Digital Signal Processing, deep learning, and big data. This includes executing experiments that encompass the design, implementation, analysis, and communication of results. You will also lead a team of researchers and engineers, setting the technical direction for projects and ensuring that the research is effectively integrated into Google products. Collaboration across various disciplines will be essential to ensure that the innovative research translates into practical applications that enhance the user experience on Pixel devices.

Responsibilities

  • Innovate in speech, language, and conversational AI through fundamental and applied research.
  • Design and develop cutting-edge speech algorithms and systems using Digital Signal Processing, deep learning, and big data.
  • Execute experiments such as design, implementation, analysis, and communication of results.
  • Lead a team of researchers and engineers, setting technical direction.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to integrate research into Google products.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with a focus on audio signal processing, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience developing Digital Signal Processing algorithms, including voice processing (e.g., noise suppression, spectral analysis).
  • Experience designing and implementing real-time Machine Learning (ML) based voice processing algorithms for embedded systems or mobile platforms.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: LLM, NLP, ASR, TTS, ML/AI using C, C++, Python.

Nice-to-haves

  • PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 10 years of experience developing Digital Signal Processing algorithms, including voice processing (e.g., noise suppression, spectral analysis).
  • 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role, setting direction and driving business impact.
  • Experience optimizing algorithms for performance and low latency.
  • Experience in generative AI and speech research, including first-author publications at AI conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, InterSpeech, etc.).
