About the position

Balto Pharma, a biotech startup located in South Pasadena, California, is dedicated to the discovery and development of innovative therapeutics aimed at disrupting the signaling pathways in cancer cells. We are currently seeking highly motivated individuals with a Master's or PhD degree in cancer biology, immunology, biochemistry, or medicinal chemistry to join our research and development team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the R&D of novel cancer therapeutics, contributing to the advancement of our therapeutic products through preclinical pharmacology and toxicology studies. In this role, you will collaborate with a cross-functional team and external partners to drive the development of our therapeutic products. You will be responsible for designing, performing, interpreting, troubleshooting, and reporting complex experimental data. The ability to manage multiple experiments and projects simultaneously is essential, as is staying current with the latest literature in your field. You will act as an expert resource in your scientific discipline and related areas, providing clear and professional verbal and written communication, along with excellent presentation skills. Additional duties may be assigned as needed, and part-time employment options may be considered for the right candidate. Responsibilities

  • Conduct preclinical pharmacology and toxicology studies.
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team and external partners to advance therapeutic product development.
  • Design, perform, interpret, troubleshoot, and report complex experimental data.
  • Manage multiple experiments and projects simultaneously.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest literature in the field.
  • Act as an expert resource in scientific fields and related disciplines.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with excellent presentation skills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • BSc, MSc or PhD in molecular biology, immunology, or related fields.
  • Cell/molecular biology skills including transfections, generation of stable and clonal cell lines, western blotting, immunoprecipitation, ELISA, plasmid DNA manipulation, qRT-PCR, siRNA/shRNA, CRISPR.
  • Ability to perform tissue culture, including with immortalized and tumor cells.
  • Experience working with immune and/or cell-based assays.
  • Experience in the cancer field, demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience with mouse cancer models.
  • Drug development experience, including small molecules and understanding of drug properties, assay/model development, and PK/PD.
  • Experience with flow cytometry.
  • Strong communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the immunology/cancer immunology field.
  • IND experience.
  • Knowledge of pharmacology.
