Oracle Labs is searching for an outstanding research scientist in Machine Learning and AI to join our research team. Our researchers study and design novel approaches and methodologies, often tackling projects with high risk or uncertainty that are challenging to address within a product development organization. The research conducted at Oracle Labs is aimed at achieving real-world outcomes, with the goal of developing technologies that will play a significant role in the evolution of technology and society. Notable innovations such as chip multithreading and the Java programming language originated from work done in Oracle Labs. In this role, you will be responsible for researching, designing, and implementing novel large language models, including AI Agents. You will publish original research, create new datasets that lead to meaningful improvements in large language models and AI Agents, and open source high-quality code and reproducible research. Collaboration with other team members, internal teams, and external researchers will be a key aspect of your work, as well as transferring technology to product groups.

Responsibilities

• Research, design and implement novel large language models, including AI Agents
• Publish original research

Requirements

• Completed a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience (degree must be completed prior to joining) by Dec 2024
• Strong background in theory and practice of large language models as well as machine learning and deep learning
• Excellent programming and debugging skills in Python
• Hands-on experience with common machine learning frameworks, such as PyTorch
• Genuine commitment to doing impactful research
• Outstanding research track record
• Proficiency and interest in new research, especially related to AI Agents and machine learning
• Ability to rapidly develop a deep understanding of new technical tools and ideas
• Efficient and organized experimental practices, including large scale experimentation, error analysis, and evaluation approaches
• Experience in analyzing and collecting data from various sources
• Experience collaborating in a team environment on research projects
• Excellent communication skills
• Reside in the United States and/or attend a university in the US
• Able to obtain work authorization in the US in 2024
