About the position

The Research Services Analyst at Foley & Lardner LLP is responsible for providing high-quality legal and non-legal research and analysis to support the firm's knowledge, business, and practices. This role involves creating and delivering visual and actionable work products, monitoring service requests, and managing departmental workflow across various time zones. The position emphasizes the use of current and emerging technologies, particularly in the realm of intellectual property research.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for successful and timely completion of legal and non-legal research projects submitted by firm members.
  • Experience or aptitude to learn, understand and utilize current and emerging technologies such as prompt engineering for both extractive and generative AI tools.
  • Perform comprehensive intellectual property research, particularly extensive experience in patent and IP related due diligence.
  • Monitor in-coming service requests for specifically assigned time to ensure a high level of service to the firm.
  • Through professional development and regular, current research, gain knowledge of current online resources and keep Manager informed of the necessity for changes or additions to online search services.
  • Communication regarding workflow issues and request updates.
  • Work collaboratively with team members on awareness and advocacy efforts.
  • Educate firm members on the legal technologies available, integration of these tools within the workflow, and knowledge management best practices.
  • Facilitate the continual process of identifying the best practices and sources of useful knowledge by staying abreast on current and emerging research resources, technologies and knowledge management trends.
  • Bill and submit time entries in an efficient manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Graduate degree in Information Science, Business or JD preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of Intellectual Property research experience in a consultative role in a law firm required.
  • Solid understanding of the legal client/matter lifecycle required.
  • Experience as a practicing attorney, paralegal, or in knowledge management preferred.
  • Advanced computer/technical skills and experience with complex online research tools and platforms strongly preferred.
  • Experience with MS Office, Teams, and other applications strongly preferred.
