About the position

The Research Specialist in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania is responsible for leading research initiatives focused on carbon dioxide removal and critical minerals production. This role involves managing multiple projects, mentoring students, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations in the laboratory. The position emphasizes collaboration with the Principal Investigator and aims to foster connections with industry and academic partners.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate, contribute and manage development of multiple projects associated with carbon dioxide removal and critical minerals production at direction of Principal Investigator.
  • Lead research team to design and conduct quantitative research, including proposal development, research design, data collection, survey design, analyses, and report writing.
  • Develop literature, reports, manuscripts and publications to drive funding opportunities.
  • Develop relationships with existing and potential funders, research partners, research sites, regulatory offices and affiliated organizations as part of stakeholder management.
  • Train and mentor students and interface with postdoctoral fellows and students in the laboratory.
  • Develop and implement all safety procedures in the lab including drafting and implementing new SOPs and protocols for general laboratory practices, in compliance with safety regulations.
  • Maintain a close partnership with Principal Investigator to ensure success of all research.

Requirements

  • PhD in Geological Sciences or Chemical Engineering; with a background in tech-to-market and/or policy or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
