About the position

Join our team at PVAMU Farm, where you'll lead field experiments to maintain cutting-edge research testbeds and assist extension and county agents in implementing climate-smart practices for farmers. Your role will involve conducting research on spatial hydrology, agricultural water management, carbon sequestration, and climate using advanced modeling techniques. Additionally, you'll assist the team in data acquisition, modeling, and identifying environmental stressors, while contributing to the writing of research reports, manuscripts, and grant proposals, and presenting findings at scientific meetings. Engage in extension and outreach activities as needed, collaborating with fellow researchers, and providing support to undergraduate and graduate students and extension personnel. Your work will play a pivotal role in advancing the university's commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service. This position may pay more than the minimum proposed salary listed above, depending on experience and/or qualifications of the selected candidate. This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, execution, and maintenance of field experiments, ensuring the integrity of research testbeds for ongoing data collection analysis.
  • Download and analyze data from field experiments and other sources, applying statistical and computational methods to derive meaningful insights and contribute to research findings.
  • Take a lead role in managing externally funded projects, including budget oversight, coordination of research activities, and adherence to project timelines and deliverables.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as other team members, facilitating their involvement in research activities.
  • Assist in writing research reports, manuscripts, and grant proposals, and present research results at scientific meetings.
  • Participate and assist in college-wide events, activities, committees and perform other duties as deemed necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Six years of related experience.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong quantitative and programming experiences in R, Python, and others.
  • Considerable experience in spatial data analysis, laboratory analytical techniques, field research design, and project implementations at different scales (field and watershed).
  • Strong numerical modeling and analytical and statistical skills.
  • Strong interest in working with multidisciplinary teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. degree
  • A Ph.D. in earth science, hydrology, soil science, geography, eco-hydrology, civil engineering, geosciences, agricultural engineering, or any other relevant academic field emphasizing remote sensing, carbon dynamics, climate change eco-hydrology.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with faculty, educators, and staff.
  • Ability to organize tasks and prioritize work with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and Geographical Information System (GIS) software.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Remote Sensing Tools and data.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the mission and role of the Land Grant University System.
