About the position

The Research Specialist, Measurement & Data Analysis at Boston College focuses on statistical programming and data analysis within the TIMSS & PIRLS International Study Center. This role involves assisting in the technical aspects of international assessments, contributing to the design and execution of statistical analyses, and communicating results to a global audience. The position requires a strong background in statistics and experience with large-scale educational measurement projects.

Responsibilities

  • Support the completion of reporting schedules through analytic and operational work.
  • Collaborate with research specialists, statistical programmers, and psychometricians.
  • Develop and maintain data processing systems and computer programs for TIMSS and PIRLS data analysis.
  • Create computer programs for data analysis exhibits for reports.
  • Document and assist in publishing international databases and user guides for assessments.
  • Design and conduct analyses for special studies related to TIMSS and PIRLS data.

Requirements

  • MSc or advanced qualifications in statistics, psychometrics, quantitative research methods, or a related field.
  • 0-3 years of relevant work experience for Research Associate level.
  • 3 years of relevant work experience for Research Specialist level.
  • 6 years of relevant work experience for Senior Research Specialist level.
  • Strong quantitative skills and experience in complex data analysis and modeling.
  • Experience with statistical programming tools, particularly R and SAS.
  • Willingness to learn new methodological skills and tools as needed.
  • Experience in an international and multicultural environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with multidimensional item response theory models.
  • Familiarity with international educational measurement projects.
