About the position

The Research Specialist will join Dr. Bruce Barrett's research team at the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health, focusing on respiratory and sinusitis studies. This role involves direct interaction with study team members and research participants to ensure proper data and specimen collection, meeting all study objectives. The position requires strong interpersonal and organizational skills, attention to detail, and flexibility, with expectations for evening and weekend work.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision.
  • Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results.
  • Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences.
  • Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials.
  • Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers.
  • Performs literature reviews and writes reports.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and interact professionally with study participants, collaborators, and study team members.
  • Experience using clinical and/or social science research methods.
  • Experience using REDCap database.
  • Experience working in a clinical and/or medical setting.
  • Experience working with study participants of all ages including pediatric population.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using Advarra payment system.
  • Familiarity with conducting literature searches and writing and editing manuscripts.
  • Experience collecting nasal swabs and/or nasal/oral pharyngeal swabs and running rapid and or rapid PCR tests.
  • Experience collecting blood specimens and running rapid CRP tests.

Benefits

  • Salary starting from $45,000 annually, negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
