Columbia University's Mortimer B. Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute is at the forefront of scientific research, uniting world-class scientists from various academic disciplines to enhance our understanding of the brain and its influence on mind and behavior. The Institute is dedicated to fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment across more than 50 laboratories, with a focus on advancing insights into human health through the exploration of brain development, performance, endurance, and recovery. The Zuckerman Institute is committed to promoting diversity in science, which is essential for driving transformative research that can have a significant impact on the world. Located in the state-of-the-art Jerome L. Greene Science Center on Columbia's Manhattanville campus, the Institute provides an environment conducive to high-level scholarly research. The Bendesky Lab, in particular, focuses on the genetic and neuronal bases of behavior and its evolution. The lab has made significant discoveries, including the mechanisms underlying monogamous behaviors in rodents and the sequencing of the Siamese fighting fish genome. The lab is also engaged in developing tools for genome manipulation and identifying the genetic bases of various phenotypic traits. The Research Staff Assistant will work under the direction of a postdoctoral researcher, engaging in cutting-edge techniques to map, observe, and manipulate neural circuits. This role offers a unique opportunity to support the laboratory's mission while gaining hands-on experience in benchwork, data collection, analysis, and lab management. The position is full-time and grant-funded, providing a platform for individuals interested in advancing their careers in science or medicine.
