About the position

Under general supervision of the lead departmental Statistician but according to established policies and procedures operates computer with access to computing resources within the Department of Psychiatry to display store retrieve and analyze data gathered from various research projects. Consults with researchers within the department to appropriately match data collection and analytic approaches with study design. Creates relational databases and audits data collection procedures. Perform statistical analysis for multiple research studies and help present summary reports to researchers. Reviews results to detect and correct errors; prepares and distributes reports and assists with final presentation of results. Assists in complex analysis including longitudinal methods missing data causal approaches data-driven prediction algorithms functional data analysis and transportability methods. Trains and oversees work of Research Assistants within the department in database coding entry and cleaning of data. Assists in providing analytic support to doctoral and postdoctoral researchers within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Help manage the data pipeline including data integrity and performing appropriate statistical analysis.
  • Perform important analytic tasks including ensuring accuracy of data ensuring elimination of data errors as appropriate.
  • Assist with advanced statistical approaches involved in longitudinal methods missing data causal approaches data-driven prediction algorithms and functional data analysis and transportability methods.
  • Organize reports for departmental faculty at scheduled research meetings.
  • Directly interface with research faculty from various projects across the department of psychiatry to help conduct and prepare statistical analyses for national and international conferences as well as for peer-reviewed publications.
  • Maintain data and analytic files electronically that are consistent with FAIR principles for reproducible science.
  • Help prepare data analytic syntax and meta data for upload to public data repositories.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in computer science biostatistics applied mathematics/statistics quantitative psychology or other related discipline required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Coursework must include higher level courses in advanced statistical techniques and algorithms.
  • Proficiency in programming applications such as R, SAS, or SPSS is required.
  • Experience with relational database management tools and database structure such as SQL or MS Access is preferred but not required.
  • Firsthand experience with data collection in health sciences is required.
  • Experience in the field of mental health is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills to collaborate with research professionals across disciplines.
  • Strong written communication skills for dissemination of analytic results.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with various physiological recordings from human subjects and/or animals.
  • Other wet-lab experiences demonstrating high caliber at data collection.
  • Basic training in human physiology neuroscience or other applicative biological science field.
