About the position

The Research Study Assistant (Per Diem) position at Temple University Health System is primarily focused on supporting cancer research projects and studies. The role involves coordinating various activities essential for the implementation of research studies, which includes preparing study materials, recruiting participants, and collecting data. The assistant will work closely with the Principal Investigator and other staff members to ensure the smooth operation of cancer research initiatives. This position requires a proactive approach, as it involves making judgments and taking initiative in the maintenance of research studies. Key responsibilities include assisting in the recruitment of study participants through various methods such as phone calls, mail, and in-person interactions. The assistant will also be responsible for study registration, communicating study objectives and procedures to participants, scheduling appointments, administering informed consent, and collecting data during study assessments. Additionally, the role requires organizing and preparing study materials, as well as assisting in the preparation of presentations and other relevant materials. The assistant will follow study protocol procedures, providing input for necessary changes and updates to survey instruments and data collection methods. They will also track and maintain records of participant recruitment and participation, ensuring that all confidential study files and records are organized and secure. Proficiency in Microsoft programs, particularly Excel and Word, as well as familiarity with research programs like Epic and Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap), is essential for this role. Moreover, the assistant will assist with data analysis, including data cleaning and interview transcription, and will conduct literature searches and reviews to prepare written reports as needed. The ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing conditions is crucial, especially during peak periods that may involve tight deadlines and high-stress situations. Bilingual candidates, particularly those fluent in Asian languages such as Mandarin, Vietnamese, or Korean, are preferred for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Principal Investigator and other staff in cancer research activities.
  • Coordinate and conduct participant recruitment under the direction of investigators.
  • Communicate study objectives and procedures to prospective and enrolled study participants.
  • Schedule study participants and administer informed consent when designated by investigators.
  • Collect and administer measures at study assessments.
  • Organize and prepare study materials and assist with presentations.
  • Follow study protocol procedures and provide input for changes and updates.
  • Identify and report needed protocol and procedural changes.
  • Track and maintain records of recruitment and participation.
  • Register participants in the institutional database and maintain confidential study files.
  • Assist with data analysis, including data cleaning and interview transcription.
  • Conduct literature searches and reviews, preparing written reports as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Public Health, Nursing, or a related field (Required).
  • General experience working in cancer research, public health, or behavioral science (Required).
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician certification (Preferred).

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in an Asian language (e.g., Mandarin, Vietnamese, Korean, etc.) is preferred.
