About the position

The Research Technical Specialist in LNP Formulation at Emory University is responsible for synthesizing, testing, and cataloging lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) within the Santangelo laboratory. This role involves utilizing industry-standard formulation techniques to encapsulate synthetic mRNA for therapeutic experiments, contributing to advanced research in the field of biomedical engineering. The position requires a highly organized individual with strong laboratory skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a research environment.

Responsibilities

  • Functions as a skilled individual contributor or lead researcher on one or more research projects, serving as an expert in specialized area(s).
  • Designs, develops and conducts large and/or complex research experiments.
  • Reviews progress of research and evaluates results.
  • Shares expertise in equipment operation and laboratory techniques.
  • Refines/adapts methodologies to fit specific experiment requirements.
  • Collaborates in the development of new techniques.
  • Co-authors publications and may co-present findings with Principal Investigator at meetings/conferences.
  • Formulates LNPs using industry standard techniques and equipment.
  • Analyses LNPs for size, zeta potential, and encapsulation efficiency using DLS and RNA content methods.
  • Works with scientists to further develop LNP formulation protocols.
  • Prepares detailed quality summaries.
  • Documents LNP production and testing details and reports to supervisor.
  • Prepares shipments of reagents to both domestic and international partners.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in a scientific field.
  • Seven years of professional research experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience producing LNPs using industry-standard microfluidic based formulation devices.
  • Prior experience performing DLS, zeta-potential, and RiboGreen RNA concentration techniques.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a wet lab environment.
