About the position

The Research Technician I position at Children's National Hospital involves conducting research under the direction of Dr. Fabbri, focusing on the role of microRNAs and other non-coding RNAs in cancer biology. The technician will perform a variety of laboratory tests, specimen preparations, and experimental procedures to support ongoing research efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine and specialized laboratory tests as directed by the principal investigator.
  • Perform specimen preparations and experimental procedures for research purposes.
  • Plan, conduct, and manage research projects in compliance with federal and institutional regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and results obtained.
  • Assist in planning specific research protocols and procedures.
  • Coordinate schedules of tests and procedures and assist in troubleshooting new techniques.
  • Compile and analyze data, preparing charts and summary reports as needed.
  • Attend courses, seminars, and lab meetings to enhance knowledge of research techniques.
  • Demonstrate collaborative behavior and communicate effectively with team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in basic science or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of related experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture, PCR, and Western blotting.
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety and basic lab equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with droplet-digital PCR and CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing.
  • Ability to isolate and characterize exosomes and other extracellular vesicles.
  • Experience with in vivo work using murine models.
