About the position

The Research Technician II position at the Infectious Disease Diagnostics Laboratory (IDDL) of Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) focuses on clinical microbiology and infectious disease diagnostics. The role involves performing molecular biology experiments, assisting in next-generation sequencing workflows, and conducting microbial culture and phenotypic assays. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to translational studies that have direct implications for pediatric patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine tests and experiments under the direction of the principal investigator or supervisor.
  • Conduct research procedures on experimental samples as directed.
  • Record and check experiments/results for completeness and accuracy.
  • Perform calculations and maintain appropriate logs and lab notebooks.
  • Assist in the care of lab equipment and sterilize glassware.
  • Dispose of specimens, media, and other materials using appropriate procedures.
  • Attend courses, seminars, and lab meetings to expand knowledge of research and laboratory techniques.
  • Record results, organize data, and maintain lab notebooks in an organized manner.
  • Conduct literary searches as directed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • At least one year of related classroom experience or successful completion of a technical training program and research laboratory experience required.
  • At least two years of related classroom experience or successful completion of a technical training program and research laboratory experience preferred.
  • Basic understanding of lab procedures, protocols, and equipment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Solid critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid analytical skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior bioinformatic experience is a plus.
