About the position

The Research Technician II position in the Neuroscience division at Baylor College of Medicine focuses on studying mouse models of neurodevelopmental disorders. The technician will be part of a multi-disciplinary team, engaging in various research activities including data processing, molecular biology, and immunohistochemistry. This role is essential for advancing understanding in the field of neurodevelopmental disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Processes EEG data recorded from mouse models of neurological disorders, including removal of recording artifacts and identification of pathological EEG signals.
  • Performs mouse handling, husbandry, and genotyping.
  • Conducts molecular biology tasks such as plasmid preparation, molecular cloning, and qPCR.
  • Executes immunohistochemistry and imaging tasks, including animal perfusion, tissue fixation, sectioning, immunostaining, and fluorescence imaging of stained sections.
  • Assists with ongoing experimental work, including autoclaving, solution preparation, and ordering supplies.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field, or four years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • No prior experience required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in biology and neuroscience is desirable.
  • Background in math, physics, or engineering is a plus.
  • Experience in biology experiments or programming in Python.
  • Detail-oriented and interested in conducting independent research.
  • Ability to walk 0.5-1 mile and lift at least 25 lbs.
