NREL is seeking to hire an early career researcher to participate in various projects to conduct cutting-edge research in the areas of renewable thermal energy systems. The candidate will work with other engineers and scientists in the Thermal Energy Systems Group, within the Energy Conversion and Storage Systems Center (ECaSS). The thermal energy systems group is focused on concentrating solar power (CSP) and thermal (CST) technologies, thermal energy hybridization systems, and thermal energy storage systems. The candidate will conduct research and development efforts on advancing solar collector technology and developing/operating a top-notch CSP performance evaluation platform. Specifically, we are looking for a qualified candidate who possesses in-depth knowledge of CSP/CST components and systems, particularly on solar collectors. The role involves conducting independent research on concentrating solar thermal power and thermal energy storage, with necessary guidance, and mentoring student interns to carry out scope-specific projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing, fabricating, testing, and commissioning custom mechanical systems and software supporting research and development work. Familiarity with codes and standards for solar collectors, including both implementation and development at the international level, is also essential. The candidate will be expected to program in Python, MATLAB, or other suitable languages for solar collector metrology systems, design and perform experiments for solar collector performance evaluation, and compile and present technical research to a wide audience. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful work that contributes to the advancement of renewable energy technologies and supports NREL's mission to save the planet.
