About the position
The Residence Hall Director at Sam Houston State University is primarily responsible for the operation of residence halls and the daily supervision of resident advisors. This role involves ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all residents while maintaining effective communication with the Residence Life Office and overseeing various administrative and student service functions.
Responsibilities
- Process paperwork in a timely manner based on due dates and policies.
- Maintain accurate records of facility maintenance, resident rosters, and operational reports.
- Provide regularly scheduled office hours from 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday.
- Address student and parent concerns, serving as an information resource and referral agent.
- Enforce policies and provide behavioral counseling to residents.
- Develop and advise the Hall Council, overseeing programming and maintaining visibility in the hall community.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities including selection, training, and performance appraisal of staff.
- Maintain communication with the Department of Residence Life regarding building operations and emergencies.
- Participate in a rotating duty system and attend required meetings and special events.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field required prior to start date.
- Master's degree and one year of experience in Residence Life preferred.
- Proven management and leadership abilities.
- Willingness to live on campus in a residence hall and work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.
- Additional experience may be considered in lieu of education.
