About the position

The Residence Life Coordinator (Part-time) is responsible for overseeing student residents in a 100-bed apartment-style housing facility at Lamar State College-Port Arthur. This role supports the administration and operation of student housing, fostering a positive learning environment and engaging living community. The Coordinator must live on-site at Seahawk Landing and is expected to work independently while maintaining effective relationships with students and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee student residents in a 100-bed apartment-style housing facility.
  • Support the administration and operation of student housing.
  • Provide an environment that supports the college's mission.
  • Cultivate a positive learning environment and engaging living community.
  • Directly supervise Resident Assistants (RAs).
  • Recruit, select, and train Resident Assistants.
  • Complete administrative paperwork and reports for students.
  • Promote student housing to current and prospective students.
  • Collaborate with Student Services, Student Activities, Campus Safety, and ITEX.
  • Participate in college-wide recruitment events and campus visits.
  • Provide support to student residents and mediate concerns or disagreements.
  • Submit early alerts on students of concern.
  • Serve as student conduct officer for housing violations and maintain conduct records.
  • Conduct weekly walk-throughs and schedule meetings with RAs and ITEX.
  • Develop student housing handbook and processes.
  • Develop and present programs to students as required by the Dean of Student Services.
  • Serve on an on-call rotation, being present in the residence hall two nights per week and two weekends per month.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • One year of experience in a college student environment or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to work independently with little direction.
  • Organizational skills in handling, directing, and prioritizing multiple assignments/projects.
  • Proficient in e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
  • Demonstrated initiative and creativity in facilitating workshops and training.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to triage and set priorities.
  • Adaptability and flexibility in multi-tasking and responding to various issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Two years of experience in student housing or a similar environment.

Benefits

  • Hourly wage of $15.00/hour.
  • Part-time work hours of 20 hours per week, plus on-call duties.
