About The Position

The Resident Assistant (RA) at The Towers at The City College of New York plays a crucial role in enhancing the residential experience for students. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Currently enrolled full-time student at a higher education institution (minimum of 12 undergraduate credits or 9 graduate credits).
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 at the time of application and maintain this GPA during employment.
  • Good financial and judicial standing with The Towers and academic institution.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and correspondence.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and present information effectively.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Basic typing and computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Identify residents within the community and notify supervisor of roommate conflicts.
  • Assist with roommate mediation sessions and contracts.
  • Maintain high visibility in the buildings and community to be available to residents.
  • Encourage residents to take responsibility for incidents and events in the community.
  • Maintain a positive building community through open communication and programming.
  • Identify and assist residents with personal, academic, wellness, or other special issues.
  • Respond and report inappropriate, discriminatory, or harassing behavior.
  • Support mandatory Open House dates by giving tours of the building.
  • Interpret and enforce community and institution's regulations and policies.
  • Learn and implement building-wide emergency response procedures.
  • Complete and submit Incident Reports and duty logs after each shift.
  • Respond to situations needing attention and observe residents for emotional or social problems.
  • Coordinate and complete social or educational programs once a month.
  • Encourage residents to develop and implement programs and complete program evaluations.
  • Assist with room condition assessments before Move-In and after Move-Out each semester.
  • Conduct health, safety, and maintenance inspections each semester and report concerns.
  • Participate in training and administrative tasks before and after classes begin.
  • Attend all in-services, meetings, and events as assigned.
