About the position

Elderwood is currently seeking a compassionate and qualified Resident Care Aide - Personal Care Aide (PCA) or Home Health Aide (HHA) to join our team. This position is essential in ensuring the health and well-being of our residents by providing personal care support under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual who can create a supportive and nurturing environment for our seniors. As a Resident Care Aide, you will be responsible for meeting the physical and emotional needs of residents, ensuring that the highest degree of quality resident care is maintained at all times. This role involves assisting residents with daily living activities, which may include meal assistance, grooming, medication management, showering, and dressing. You will also be required to respond immediately to residents' requests and assist with various activities of daily living (ADLs) according to their individual care plans. In addition to providing personal care, you will be responsible for notifying supervisors of any changes in residents' conditions, maintaining facility standards for resident care, and ensuring that all residents are treated with respect and kindness. You will also participate in facility meetings and in-service programs to enhance your knowledge of resident needs and care. This position requires a commitment to supporting Elderwood's mission, vision, and values, and adhering to the company's code of conduct and HIPAA policies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with Daily Living Activities including meal assistance, grooming, medication management, showering, and dressing.
  • Move and walk quickly and steadily in emergency situations.
  • Assist with wheelchair transport of residents.
  • Apply/utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Respond immediately to residents' requests.
  • Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) according to their plan of care and individual needs.
  • Notify Supervisor of changes in residents' conditions or needs.
  • Maintain facility standards for resident care and ensure all residents are treated with respect and kindness.
  • Assist with service in the dining room for all meals as needed.
  • Attend facility meetings, staff meetings, and required in-services.
  • Generate and develop ideas to improve the quality of care for residents.
  • Utilize electronic timekeeping system as directed.
  • Arrive to work on time and regularly, working as scheduled.
  • Follow the dress code of the facility including wearing a name tag at all times.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

Requirements

  • Eighteen (18) years of age required; high school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Certification by an approved basic training program approved by the Department of Health.
  • Ability to assist residents with all aspects of Daily Living Activities including bathing, toileting, and transferring.
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds; occasional 2 person lift up to 120 pounds.
  • Ability to verbally communicate well with residents, families, and staff members.
  • Ability to read and understand task assignments and provide written documentation as required.
  • Display of genuine concern for the elderly; a dependable, patient, and compassionate attitude towards residents.
  • Respectful demeanor of residents' rights and wishes.
  • Ability to cooperate and maintain respectful treatment with others.
  • Sense of responsibility, maturity, diplomacy, and ability to work well with residents, families, and other staff members.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a similar role or healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
