About the position

The Resident Care Aide - Personal Care Aide (PCA) position at Elderwood Assisted Living at West Seneca involves providing essential personal care support to residents, ensuring their health and well-being. This role is crucial in meeting the physical and emotional needs of residents under the supervision of licensed nurses, while also contributing to the overall quality of care in the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with Daily Living Activities including meal assistance, grooming, medication management, showering, and dressing/undressing.
  • Respond immediately to residents' requests and notify supervisors of changes in residents' conditions or needs.
  • Assist with wheelchair transport of residents as needed.
  • Apply and utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Serve meals in the dining room and maintain facility standards for service and customer focus techniques.
  • Attend facility meetings, staff meetings, and required or preferred in-services.
  • Generate and develop ideas to improve the quality of care for residents or increase position productivity and satisfaction.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in responding to changing situations and reprioritize work as necessary.

Requirements

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Certification by an approved basic training program approved by the Department of Health.
  • Maintain current annual skills testing approval.
  • Ability to assist residents with all aspects of Daily Living Activities including bathing, toileting, and transferring.
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds; occasional 2 person lift up to 120 pounds.
  • Ability to verbally communicate well with residents, families, and staff members.
  • Ability to read and understand task assignments and provide written documentation as required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a similar role or healthcare setting.
  • Additional certifications related to personal care or healthcare.
