About the position

The Resident Director at Rivier University is a part-time, live-in role responsible for fostering a supportive living and learning environment within the Department of Residence Life & Housing. This position involves community development, staff supervision, crisis management, and operational assistance, with a focus on student success and inclusive programming.

Responsibilities

  • Work with department staff and students to create and maintain a living and learning environment that supports the mission of Rivier University and Residence Life and Housing.
  • Assist in developing and implementing an intentional community development model that emphasizes student success and inclusive community programming and support.
  • Establish an academic-focused environment by creating campus partnerships and implementing initiatives that support student social and academic success.
  • Serve as an educator and resource for students regarding college transition, academic and personal experiences, and mental health issues.
  • Participate in an 'on-duty' rotation to provide support for students and student staff, requiring quick on-site responses.
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate student staff, including Resident Advisors, and hold intentional one-on-one meetings.
  • Plan and facilitate regular staff meetings and present training topics for Resident Advisors during training sessions throughout the academic year.
  • Ensure all safety, security, and maintenance needs are reported to appropriate personnel.

Requirements

  • Mid-level experience in a related field.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage crisis situations effectively.
  • Experience in community development and student support.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in higher education settings.
  • Knowledge of residence life programming and student development theories.
