The role requires a proactive approach to customer service, ensuring that all repairs meet quality standards and are completed within the designated timeframes. In addition to technical skills, the Field Service Technician must possess strong administrative capabilities. This includes maintaining effective communication within the department to facilitate work completion and enhance service labor sales. The technician will utilize various computer programs and John Deere communication tools to record service hours, mileage, and maintain accurate time card entries. A clean and organized work environment is essential, and the technician is expected to uphold safety standards while participating in job-related training and development. Inventory control is another critical aspect of this role. The technician will be responsible for managing the service truck parts inventory while in the field and ensuring that personal tools are accounted for. The technician will perform diagnostics to identify necessary repairs, advise customers on replacement parts, and conduct tests on mechanical products and equipment post-repair to ensure compliance and performance standards are met. Additionally, the technician will prepare all required reports and forms related to work orders, documenting the causes of failures and completing warranty information as needed. The role also includes operating a company vehicle to provide field service work, delivering parts, running errands, and assisting with other duties as assigned by corporate management. Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain healthy relationships with customers.
  • Perform all levels of repair and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Adhere to the guidelines set forth in the Technician Resource Advancement Certification (TRAC) program.
  • Maintain department communication to complete work and grow service labor sales.
  • Utilize various computer programs and John Deere communication tools as resources.
  • Record service hours and mileage accurately.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe parts area and work environment.
  • Participate in all job-related training and development.
  • Maintain service truck parts inventory when in the field.
  • Perform basic diagnostics and determine necessary repairs.
  • Advise customers on replacement parts as necessary.
  • Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.
  • Test mechanical products and equipment after repair to ensure proper performance.
  • Prepare all reports and forms required in conjunction with work orders.
  • Complete warranty information and maintain company vehicle and shop.
  • Maintain current knowledge of company and competitor products.
  • Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Operate company vehicle to provide service work in the field.
  • Deliver parts and run errands as needed.
  • Assist with other duties assigned by corporate management.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Field Service Technician or similar role.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals and blueprints.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Proficient in using computer programs and communication tools.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
