The Resident Substitute Teacher will be assigned to Salem Avenue Elementary School and will work daily to fill positions that are not covered by regular substitutes. The Resident Substitute Teacher will be expected to report each morning to receive their assignment for the day, which may vary based on the needs of the school. The selection process for this position will consider various factors including academic training, certification status, past teaching experience, and recommendations from previous employers or educational institutions. The role is structured into three groups based on qualifications: Group A includes degree-holding teachers who are or could be fully certified in Maryland, Group B consists of individuals with a Bachelor's degree or higher but without full certification, and Group C includes those with less than a Bachelor's degree. This tiered approach allows for a diverse pool of candidates to fill the substitute teaching roles, ensuring that the school can maintain a high standard of education even in the absence of regular teachers. The Resident Substitute Teacher will be compensated based on their qualification level, with daily rates varying from $140 to $180 depending on their certification and experience. This position requires a commitment to follow the established routines and lesson plans of the regular classroom teacher, ensuring that students receive a consistent educational experience. The role also involves attending orientation sessions and meetings as required by the school administration, completing necessary reports, and maintaining a professional demeanor at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Make every effort to preserve the regular routine of the class and follow the plans designed by the classroom teacher.
  • Attend special orientation sessions provided by the school system and meetings as requested by the school administration.
  • Complete reports that are requested or required by the school.
  • Notify the Human Resources Office immediately if no longer available for substitute work.
  • Demonstrate a courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to follow oral or written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Available to work Monday through Friday.
  • Willing to accept placements in all grades and subjects.
