About the position
The Resident Support Specialist (RSS) at the Lighthouse plays a crucial role in maintaining a stable and therapeutic environment for residents. This position involves assisting residents in learning community integration, providing exposure to supportive services, and encouraging participation in various activities including social, educational, vocational, psychiatric, and rehabilitative. The RSS is also responsible for household management tasks such as meal preparation and housekeeping, overseeing clients engaged in these tasks, and providing transportation and supervision for clients leaving the facility. During night shifts, the RSS is tasked with supervising the facility, monitoring security cameras, and enforcing program rules under the direction of the on-call management team.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate peer mentoring, support and encouragement
- Coordinate social and recreational activities
- Oversee clients with kitchen and laundry room use
- Assist with household chores when needed
- Assist with meal preparation, if needed
- Supervise facility and security cameras at night
- Be available to work holidays and weekends
Requirements
- Ability to tolerate stressful and/or ambiguous work situations
- Ability to maintain flexible work schedule, especially nights, weekends and holidays
- Comfortable working within potentially unsafe environments
- Ability to identify potential crisis situations and convey this information to supervisor
- Must be able to stoop, bend and lift up to 30 lbs. frequently
- Must be able to stand or sit for extended periods of time
- Must be able to climb stairs frequently
- Clean NYS driver's license
- Associates degree in human service field and one year in a human service agency, OR High school diploma or equivalency and two years full time paid experience in a human service agency or health care facility
Benefits
- Starting rate of $16 per hour
- Fulltime position with 35 hours per week
