About the position

The Resident Support Specialist (RSS) at Community Housing Innovations (CHI) is responsible for providing a safe and structured environment for residents and staff. This role involves monitoring client behavior, ensuring compliance with facility policies, and performing various administrative duties. The RSS plays a crucial role in maintaining the safety and well-being of residents while supporting the organization's mission to foster social and economic independence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe, structured, and supervised environment for residents and staff.
  • Coordinate and verify client movement within the facility.
  • Monitor client conduct and overall behavior during shifts.
  • Maintain visibility to residents, staff, and visitors by wearing a safety monitor vest and ID badge.
  • Screen all clients and visitors entering the facility and perform bag searches as required.
  • Ensure clients abide by facility, DSS, and OTDA policies and procedures.
  • De-escalate potential crisis situations and document all interventions.
  • Conduct rounds throughout the facility, including common areas.
  • Complete logs, incident reports, and required documentation.
  • Perform administrative and receptionist duties at the operations/front desk.
  • Monitor video surveillance cameras and fire prevention systems.
  • Support the running of fire drills and evacuate the building when necessary.
  • Assist with room preparation and turnover for new clients.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning and office supplies and ensure proper distribution.
  • Inform management of work site physical conditions and repair needs.
  • Support afterschool/evening activities as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1-2 years of experience working in a related field preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in English required; bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.
  • Basic competency in MS Windows, MS Office, and internet usage.
  • Ability to tour property, walk distances, and climb stairs.
  • Ability to prioritize, make appropriate decisions, and perform proper notifications.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team, be highly organized, and work well under pressure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a related field preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.
