About the position

The Residential and Student Engagement Coordinator at Indiana University is responsible for overseeing the Groups Scholars Program, focusing on enhancing the residential experience for first-generation and underrepresented students. This role involves managing housing, student engagement activities, and programming that fosters community among students. The coordinator will also support recruitment efforts, facilitate orientation sessions, and develop initiatives that promote academic success and personal development.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all residential components of the Groups Summer Experience for entering program scholars.
  • Manage the Groups Scholars Living Learning Community (LLC) in collaboration with Housing and Residence Life staff.
  • Promote the Groups Scholars Program through outreach and recruitment activities.
  • Assist with the recruitment, selection, and transition of Groups Scholars into the program and IU Indianapolis.
  • Develop and implement student engagement activities, workshops, and events during the Groups Summer Experience and academic year.
  • Supervise residential mentors and program assistants, providing training and performance evaluations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for residential students, addressing concerns and providing support.
  • Collaborate with academic advisors and faculty to integrate academic support services into the residential experience.
  • Develop programming that reflects the needs of first-generation, underrepresented students.
  • Provide crisis management and conflict resolution for Groups Scholars in residence.
  • Collect and analyze data on student engagement and satisfaction to improve experiences.
  • Work with the Director of the Groups Scholars Program to align initiatives with program goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, public affairs, public health, counseling, social work, business, or related field.
  • 2 years of experience in student services, higher education, social work, counseling, or related field.
  • 2 years of experience in supervising student staff and providing crisis management in a residential setting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in higher education student affairs or related field.
  • 2 years of experience in residential life or student engagement in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated understanding of unique challenges for first-generation and underrepresented student populations.
