About the position

The City of Los Angeles, through its Department of Recreation and Parks, is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals for the role of Residential Camp Counselor at Camp Hollywoodland. This seasonal position is crucial for providing a safe and nurturing environment for children during their camping experience. Counselors will be responsible for supervising campers in an all-day and overnight setting, ensuring their general wellbeing, and creating a positive and engaging atmosphere. The camp operates from 7 am Monday until 9 pm Friday, and counselors are expected to be available for the entire duration of the camp season, which runs from June 10, 2024, through August 9, 2024. Counselors may request one week off during the summer, allowing for some flexibility in scheduling. In this role, counselors will carry out and follow camp programs, identify and meet the needs of campers, and lead a variety of activities designed to promote fun and learning. The ideal candidate will possess a positive outlook, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Counselors will also be expected to present a neat and professional appearance, demonstrating good character, integrity, and adaptability in various situations that may arise with campers. This position is not only about supervision but also about making a positive difference in the lives of children, fostering their growth and development through engaging activities and supportive interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise children in an all day and overnight environment.
  • Responsible for the general wellbeing of campers.

  • Provide a safe, friendly, loving, encouraging environment to campers and co-workers.
  • Create, plan and lead a variety of activities.

Requirements

  • Must be Female at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have High School Diploma or equivalent and preferably 1 year of college.
  • Experience working with children is desired but not mandatory.
  • Ability to identify and put campers needs first.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and live and work in a community environment.
  • Ability to teach a variety of activities.
  • Possess an enthusiastic and positive outlook.
  • Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to speak and perform in front of large groups.
  • Ability to communicate and work with a variety of ages and skill levels plus the desire to make a positive difference in a child's life.
  • Present a neat and professional appearance as well as possess good character, integrity, judgment and adaptability.
  • Possess critical thinking skills and techniques to be applied to situations that may arise with campers.
  • Ability to accept supervision and guidance.
