About the position
The Residential Counselor position at Ettie Lee Youth and Family Services is a part-time role focused on providing care and support to Severely Emotionally Disturbed (SED) youth in a residential setting. The counselor will utilize a Trauma-Informed Approach to help manage the daily living environment, support clients in their educational pursuits, and assist residents in coping with traumatic stress. This role is essential in fostering a safe and nurturing atmosphere for at-risk youth and their families.
Responsibilities
- Manage the daily living environment of the home, supporting clients in school.
- Work closely with therapists and coordinate with Administrators and the Program Manager.
- Help residents manage their response to traumatic stress, addressing behaviors such as running away, fighting, and substance use.
- Provide daily leisure-time and recreation activities for residents.
- Ensure medical and dental needs of residents are met.
- Prepare and distribute meals and assist with clothing shopping.
- Document client progress and maintain accurate records.
- Maintain a safe and clean living environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
- Valid California Driver's License with a minimum of 5 years of driving experience.
- Ability to pass a criminal/fingerprinting background check, TB test, physical exam, and drug test.
- Experience working with youth in a group home or therapeutic setting for at least one year.
Nice-to-haves
- Valid Child Development Teaching Permit.
- Completed 12 semester units of Early Childhood Education, Adolescent Development, or Foster and Kinship Care Education with at least 100 hours of experience working with youth.
- Certification as an Alcohol Counselor, Drug Counselor, or Alcohol and Drug Counselor with at least 100 hours of experience working with youth.
