About the position

The Residential Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a crucial role in assisting individuals with developmental disabilities in their daily living activities. This position involves working directly with individuals to help them achieve their Individual Support Plan (ISP) outcomes, providing necessary support in areas such as feeding, bathing, and community engagement. The DSP is responsible for documenting progress, administering medication, and fostering a supportive environment that encourages individuals to participate in community activities and develop their skills for independent living.

Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals in activities of daily living, including feeding, bathing, and changing assistance.
  • Complete training with individuals towards achieving Individual Support Plan (ISP) outcomes.
  • Document the progress of all ISP outcomes in Therap each shift for assigned individuals.
  • Attend conferences, seminars, and training relevant to the position.
  • Administer and record medication in accordance with D.D.D. guidelines.
  • Accompany individuals to appointments and activities.
  • Build a support network between individuals and community members.
  • Encourage community participation and recognize individuals' gifts.
  • Complete in-house documentation in a timely manner.
  • Participate in Circle(s) of Support for personal futures planning.
  • Respect individuals' rights, interests, and needs by spending time with them and consulting with staff.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Valid Driver's License in the state of NJ with an acceptable driving record.
  • Minimum of 3 years of driving experience with a full license.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to bend, lift, and assist in the physical transfer of individuals.
  • Ability to drive large vehicles, including non-ambulatory lift vehicles.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Strong sense of empathy and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle physical aspects of the job, such as lifting and walking for long periods.
  • Experience in training individuals in public environments.
