About the position

The Residential Direct Support Professional (DSP) role at Stone County Developmental Disability Board (SCDDB) is focused on providing essential support to individuals with developmental disabilities. DSPs are responsible for assisting clients in community settings, helping them with daily activities, and ensuring their personal goals are met. This position emphasizes the importance of compassionate care and effective communication, aiming to enhance the quality of life for those served.

Responsibilities

• Come alongside individuals in community settings.
• Provide personal care assistance with daily activities.
• Support the person to meet his/her own goals.
• Daily documentation of support provided.
• Listen carefully and communicate respectfully and clearly with the persons served.
• Support individual choice and learning new skills.
• Understand and document support plans and progress.
• Facilitate activities that provide social connections to the community.
• Assist in planning and structuring activities.
• Encourage healthy behaviors, both physical and mental.
• Administer medications accurately and reliably.
• Ensure that persons served are free from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
• Provide safeguards and appropriate leadership skills in challenging situations.
• Use positive behavioral techniques to avoid challenging situations.
• Represent SCDDB positively while upholding agency values.
• Complete duties assigned by supervisor or designee.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED.
• Ability to pass criminal/registry background checks.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to perform each essential duty and responsibility.
• Exceptional teamwork and problem-solving ability.

Nice-to-haves
