About the position

The Residential Interior Design Reporter will be responsible for covering the residential housing market, focusing on standout interiors across the nation. This role involves producing engaging content for a growing audience of homebuyers, sellers, and property professionals, while collaborating with various teams to ensure timely and relevant coverage. The position is based in Washington, DC, and seeks an experienced journalist with a background in interior design reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate command of the housing beat, closely following major industry trends, leaders, and companies.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with the news, research, and analyst teams to ensure timely coverage across various communities.
  • Cultivate a bench of knowledgeable sources and glean insights from relevant information services.
  • Produce stories and other content tailored for the web, email newsletters, social media, and other platforms.
  • Follow journalism ethics and standards to report facts, ensuring truth, accuracy, fairness, and impartiality.
  • Write clearly and engagingly, following AP style, for a broad audience of property professionals.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience reporting and writing for a daily publication.
  • Business journalism experience preferred.
  • Proven ability to produce original content that stands out in a competitive media landscape.
  • Solid web headline and story writing skills, with a command of AP Style and knowledge of SEO and social media best practices.
  • Ability to work within a collaborative environment.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, drive, and achieve results while working to deadlines under pressure.
  • Comfort with digital media, with a creative flair for images and other visual content to accompany reports.
  • A portfolio showcasing top work.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher required; ideally in journalism, communications, or a related discipline.
