About the position

The Residential Skills Instructor at Waystone Health and Human Services is responsible for enhancing the quality of life, independence, and health of individuals living in a residential setting. This full-time position involves working closely with residents to develop essential life skills, ensure safety, and provide personal care. The role requires a commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment, aligning with the organization's core values of Trust, Growth, Respect, Integrity, and Belonging.

Responsibilities

  • Complete Individual Support Plan (ISP) goals and activities.
  • Assist each individual in developing skills in all areas of community living, including training in self-care, household tasks, and socialization.
  • Ensure safety and provide help with personal care activities.
  • Administer medication when assigned.
  • Complete daily logs and notes, track behavioral data.
  • Keep daily records on all teaching programs, activities, and behavior; recording in medical log any medication given, seizures, and illnesses; recording in program log any incidents, events, and activities related to behavior plans in place.
  • Assist individuals to participate in community activities, seek membership in community groups, and build personal relationships.
  • Maintain personal budgets for each resident, plan for regular expenses, save for larger needs, track expenditures, include residents in simple budgeting and transactions.
  • Assist and guide each individual to behave appropriately in varying situations; as agreed in any behavior plans, formal or informal, in place.
  • Provide for breakfast and dinner, packed lunches on weekdays, when applicable, and all weekend and holiday meals, with appropriate concern for good nutrition, variety, individual choice, and prescribed diets.
  • Assist individuals with completing household tasks such as cleaning and laundry as well as reporting needed program repairs.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Residential Program Manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Reading, Writing and Math Skills at high school competency level.
  • Computer literacy for documentation.
  • Medication Administration Program MAP- Certification preferred, but must be certifiable.
  • Must have and maintain CPR and First Aid or become certified.
  • Valid Drivers License in good standing and a minimum of one year of driving experience.
  • Experience in providing training, case management and appropriate service delivery to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities living in the community.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
