About the position

The Residential Support Staff position at the City and County of Denver involves working with women in a reentry program, Project: Elevate, aimed at supporting their transition back into the community after incarceration. This role requires a commitment to evidence-based practices, gender-responsive and trauma-informed approaches, and the ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team. The position is essential for ensuring the safety and well-being of participants while providing support and guidance during their reentry process.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts headcounts and walk-throughs.
  • Performs searches of participants, participant property, and the facility.
  • Monitors the physical, psychological, and emotional safety of participants, sharing observations with supervisors and care management team.
  • Oversees participant sign in/out procedures.
  • Performs substance use monitoring, including urine screens.
  • Monitors medications for participants.
  • Responds to rule-breaking behavior among participants.
  • Practices techniques of behavior change and motivational enhancement.
  • Uses evidence-based behavior change practices, including core correctional practices and behavioral interventions.
  • Employs gender-responsive and trauma-informed approaches in interactions with participants.
  • Works shifts to support 24/7/365 operations coverage.
  • Performs first aid tasks in emergency situations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of higher education, with a Bachelor's Degree preferred, or any combination of education, training, or experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the job.
  • Experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities preferred.
  • Ability to attain or possess Adult CPR, AED, Naloxone, and First Aid certifications after date of hire.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Commercial Driver's License with passenger endorsement required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English (not a requirement).
  • Experience working in a related field.
  • Skilled use of software and business applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and databases.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Motivation to work with participants in a gender-responsive, trauma-informed manner.
