About the position
The Residential Support Staff position involves caring for individuals with disabilities in a residential environment, including facilitating activities within the community. This role is essential in advocating for those served on personal, family, and community levels, ensuring their privacy and dignity, and responding to health risks or hazardous conditions. The position requires a commitment to providing support and assistance in various daily activities, including meal preparation, cleaning, and light maintenance duties.
Responsibilities
- Advocates for individuals served on personal, family, and community levels.
- Observes and documents changes in the physical and mental condition of individuals served.
- Administers first aid and simple nursing procedures as needed.
- Ensures the privacy and dignity of individuals served and reports any suspected abuse or neglect.
- Transports individuals to and from community locations using an agency vehicle or personal vehicle as needed.
- Administers programs to individuals and documents progress as prescribed.
- Assists in meal preparation, cleaning, small home repairs, and light residential maintenance duties.
- Provides hospitality to all visitors at the residence.
- Explores opportunities for community participation for individuals served.
- Responds to health risks or hazardous conditions and communicates potential risks using the agency hierarchy.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to document statistics and prepare correspondence.
- Effective communication skills with a variety of groups and individuals.
- Ability to read, understand, and carry out instructions and policies.
- Ability to make decisions and reason through situations ensuring the welfare and safety of individuals served.
- Valid MI Driver's license.
- Acceptable driving record according to MOKA's vehicle insurance criteria.
- Good moral character as defined by the state of Michigan.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
