About the position

The Resource Analyst 9-P11/12 (State Forest Land Case Manager) position within the Michigan Department of Natural Resources involves managing various land transactions related to state forest lands. The role includes negotiating land acquisitions, sales, easements, and conducting field reviews to assess environmental impacts. The analyst will also maintain case information in the Land Ownership Tracking System (LOTS) and assist in evaluating land resource rights such as mineral and timber rights. This position serves as a key contact for the Real Estate Section and requires strong public relations skills due to its visibility and community engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in various land transactions including acquisitions, sales, exchanges, easements, and gifts.
  • Conduct field reviews regarding environmental and resource issues related to real estate transactions.
  • Negotiate basic land transactions and maintain case information in the Land Ownership Tracking System (LOTS).
  • Review land resource evaluations and recommendations for the disposition and purchase of resource rights.
  • Serve as the lead contact for all land transactions on behalf of the Forest Resources Division (FRD).
  • Evaluate land for feasibility of acquisition, exchanges, and sales of surplus land.
  • Provide negotiations, consultation, and case management services for land transactions involving the Michigan State Forest system.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in a physical, biological, or natural resource science, resource management, resource planning, engineering, or a related field.
  • Resource Analyst 9: No specific type or amount of experience required.
  • Resource Analyst 10: One year of professional experience in the protection, development, and maintenance of land, water, or natural resources.
  • Resource Analyst P11: Two years of professional experience in the protection, development, and maintenance of land, water, or natural resources, including one year equivalent to the intermediate (10) level in state service.
  • Resource Analyst 12: Three years of professional experience in the protection, development, and maintenance of land, water, or natural resources, including one year equivalent to the experienced (P11) level in state service.
