About the position

The Resource Development Director at Sunflower House is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and evaluation of the annual fund development plan. This position requires a strategic thinker who can manage various fundraising activities, including individual donor cultivation, major gifts solicitation, grants management, and special events. The Director will supervise a team of development staff and serve as a key liaison to the Board of Directors, ensuring that all fundraising efforts align with the organization's mission and goals. The Director will also be involved in creating and submitting an annual fund development plan, managing relationships with top donors, and ensuring effective communication and stewardship practices are in place. This role demands a high level of public speaking and writing skills, as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in fundraising practices. The Director will also be responsible for preparing and monitoring the department budget, tracking donor participation, and implementing effective donor acknowledgment plans. The position requires a proactive approach to fundraising, with a focus on building long-term relationships with donors and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the activities related to the analysis, planning, execution, and evaluation of the annual fund development plan.
  • Supervise development staff responsible for grants management, special events, volunteers, and communications.
  • Develop and implement strategies for cultivating and soliciting major gift fundraising.
  • Manage relationships with top and prospective donors and participate in all aspects of the gift cycle.
  • Work with the Board of Directors to identify and develop plans to cultivate individual donors.
  • Develop and write foundation and corporate grant proposals, including researching funding sources.
  • Maintain a calendar for grant submissions and manage grant expenditures with accounting personnel.
  • Serve as supervisor and coach to three full-time development staff members.
  • Prepare and implement annual strategies to meet strategic plan goals for resource development and communications.
  • Create and maintain record-keeping systems for tracking donor participation and stewardship.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in business, marketing, communications, public administration, or a related field.
  • Five years experience in nonprofit fundraising, including annual development and proven success in major gift solicitation.
  • Supervisory experience and demonstrated ability to hire, manage, and mentor staff.
  • Proven experience in the preparation and monitoring of budgets and financial projections.
  • Exceptional public speaking and writing skills, with a professional demeanor.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Fundraising Executive Certification (CFRE) is a plus.
  • Experience with fundraising software is recommended.
  • Knowledge of MS Office programs and Google.
