About the position

The Resource Manager at Brown Edwards is responsible for monitoring and optimizing the utilization of resources across the firm. This role involves analyzing operational results, ensuring alignment of resources, and supporting the development of staff. The Resource Manager acts as a mediator for resource conflicts and collaborates with leadership to understand business needs, ultimately driving productivity and efficiency within the firm.

Responsibilities

  • Provides firm-wide oversight of the scheduling process to promote and monitor sharing of resources across the firm.
  • Acts as a resource and point of contact to mediate conflicts and resolve resource needs that develop.
  • Maintains understanding of the various types of services provided and clients served, as well as the differing skillsets required for each.
  • Ensures full utilization of firm scheduling software in accordance with firm guidelines.
  • Makes scheduling recommendations and follows up on unresolved issues and conflicts in a timely manner.
  • Escalates issues to appropriate leader or CEO when conflicts can't be resolved timely.
  • Focuses on matching work to staff based on experience, industry, and technical expertise regardless of geography.
  • Collaborates with leaders to understand their business needs and drive consistency; fosters strong relationships with team members.
  • Monitors and manages staff productivity firm-wide and identifies trends to proactively balance workloads while increasing utilization.
  • Identifies performance issues with staff resulting in underutilization and recommends actions to remediate or terminate.
  • Provides performance input to HR based on what is learned through staff assignments.
  • Makes recommendations for process improvement to the CEO and develops best practices.
  • Provides input and reporting to CEO on hiring needs based on utilization data and capacity needs.
  • Develops and maintains resource allocation tools and reporting dashboards to identify systemic issues resulting in underutilization of staff.
  • Identifies staff who are historically underutilized to develop plans for better utilization; analyzes leverage and productivity.
  • Provides input to CEO on coaching needed for individual partners in terms of staff development and supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in a professional services firm as an external client server or as a Resource Management professional.
  • Strong relationship building, coaching, and employee development skills.
  • Ability to connect at all levels of the organization using diplomatic communication, influence, and negotiation skills.
  • Outgoing personality and ability to present topics and run meetings in front of management and staff levels.
  • Ability to multi-task and high attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage their own workload and work with multiple locations.
  • Understands and thrives in a fast-paced environment and ability to prioritize work accordingly.
  • Intermediate to expert Excel skills.
  • Ability to travel periodically, as needed (less than 10%).
