About the position
The Respiratory Therapist at Central Maine Medical Center is responsible for providing diagnostic testing and therapeutic treatment for patients with cardiopulmonary diseases. This role involves administering various respiratory therapies, managing ventilators, and supporting the overall care plan for patients, including education on pulmonary diseases. The therapist works collaboratively with the patient care team to ensure optimal patient outcomes and safety.
Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic testing and therapeutic treatment for patients with cardiopulmonary diseases according to physician orders.
- Administer respiratory therapy treatments and monitor patient responses.
- Set up and monitor mechanical ventilators, including airway management and tracheal suctioning.
- Assess patient pain and make appropriate physician contacts for intervention.
- Perform arterial punctures for blood gas analysis and understand associated complications.
- Document all pertinent data on the patient's medical record after service completion.
- Maintain knowledge of departmental forms and their proper usage.
- Perform duties outlined in the 'Shift Responsibilities' section for the assigned shift.
- Conduct patient education based on identified learning needs and evaluate effectiveness.
- Coordinate and direct patient care to meet patients' needs and follow hospital policy.
Requirements
- Current Respiratory Therapist Licensure of the State of Maine (RRT or CRT).
- Graduate of an AMA-approved School of Respiratory Therapy.
- Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS Certification required.
- A minimum of one-year respiratory care experience preferred.
Nice-to-haves
- Neonatal Resuscitation certification preferred.
- Ability to communicate in additional languages preferred.
