About the position

The Respiratory Therapy Technician at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center is responsible for providing therapeutic care to patients requiring respiratory services as ordered by a physician. This full-time position involves performing various respiratory assessments and procedures, monitoring patient conditions, and ensuring the effective use of respiratory equipment and therapies.

Responsibilities

• Perform respiratory assessments and procedures, including bronchial drainage and positive pressure breathing modalities.
• Monitor tracheostomy changes and provide metered dose inhaler instruction.
• Perform aerosol treatments and therapy.
• Conduct arterial capillary punctures and blood gas analysis, as well as pulse oximetry and CPR.
• Accurately record data and therapy in patients' medical records.
• Initiate and monitor mechanical ventilator support effectiveness.
• Perform weaning parameters and extubations as ordered.
• Communicate observations and adverse reactions regarding respiratory drugs to appropriate personnel.
• Review therapy quality and appropriateness routinely.
• Audit charts and participate in Performance Improvement activities.
• Participate in teaching programs for respiratory staff, patients, and nursing students.
• Assist in initiating new therapy procedures with department head and medical director.
• Repair and maintain respiratory care equipment following infection control policies.
• Attend required orientations, meetings, and in-services.
• Demonstrate flexibility in work scheduling to ensure patient care.

Requirements

• Successful completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
• Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
• Licensed to practice as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in Virginia.
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
• ACLS certification within 120 days of hire.
• PALS certification within 120 days of hire.
• NRP certification within 120 days of hire.
• Previous experience as a Respiratory Therapy Technician.
