About the position

The Respiratory Care Practitioner I Registered is responsible for delivering comprehensive respiratory care services under physician supervision. This role involves exercising independent clinical judgment, providing both basic and advanced respiratory care, and serving as a technical resource for physicians and hospital staff. The practitioner will work in various hospital areas, adapting to specific duties, including care for neonatal and pediatric patients, performing diagnostic tests, and ensuring the proper functioning of respiratory equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Selects, reviews, obtains, and interprets data related to patient care.
  • Performs diagnostic modalities and interprets results, including ABG sampling and analysis, spirometry, and EKGs.
  • Assembles and checks respiratory care equipment for proper function and cleanliness.
  • Initiates, conducts, and modifies prescribed therapeutic or diagnostic procedures.
  • Monitors patients' physiological responses to therapy and modifies procedures based on patient response.
  • Documents all required information in the medical record according to departmental policy.
  • May assist with or perform intubation and other critical procedures.
  • Contributes to departmental quality improvement activities and may train other practitioners.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Equivalent (GED) required.
  • California Respiratory Care Practitioner License required.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist Certificate required.
  • Basic Life Support certification required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and instructions.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Keyboard skills preferred.
  • At least one year of recent critical care experience preferred.
  • At least one year of clinical experience in neonatal/pediatric respiratory care preferred.
  • Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care preferred.
  • Certified or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist preferred.
