About the position
The Respiratory Care Practitioner at Methodist Hospital Atascosa is responsible for assessing, treating, and caring for patients with pulmonary disorders. This role involves the clinical administration of therapeutic and diagnostic respiratory care modalities, ensuring high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Operates and sets up devices such as mechanical ventilators and aerosol generators according to treatment parameters.
- Provides emergency care, including artificial ventilation and assists with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Collects and analyzes arterial blood gases, recognizing normal, abnormal, and critical values for appropriate intervention.
- Follows physician orders for treatment, evaluating requirements such as treatment type and medication dosage.
- Monitors patient's response to therapy through vital signs and other assessments.
- Consults with healthcare professionals regarding changes in patient status and collaborates on care plans.
Requirements
- Graduate of an approved Respiratory Therapy Program.
- One year previous Respiratory Therapy experience preferred.
- Current license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner from the Texas Medical Board.
- Current credential as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 90 days of employment.
Nice-to-haves
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 90 days of employment if required by department.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within 90 days of employment if required by department.
