About the position

The Respiratory Patient Care Coordinator at SOVAH Health - Danville is responsible for serving as a clinical consultant, educator, facilitator, and coach within the Respiratory Therapy Department. This role involves coordinating operations in the Bronchoscopy Laboratory, Blood Gas Lab, and Pulmonary Function Lab, ensuring compliance with standards and regulations, and providing diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for patients with cardio-pulmonary dysfunction. The coordinator will also engage in direct patient care and maintain competencies for all diagnostic labs as directed by the Clinical Operations Supervisor or Director of Cardiopulmonary Services.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the operation of the Bronchoscopy Laboratory, Blood Gas Lab, and Pulmonary Function Lab.
  • Provide diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for patients with acute and chronic cardio-pulmonary dysfunction.
  • Measure lung capacity and analyze blood samples using a blood gas analyzer.
  • Deliver and assess response to ordered therapy per plan of care.
  • Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
  • Evaluate respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes and best practices.
  • Respond to codes and participate as a member of the code team and rapid response team.
  • Educate patients and families about illnesses and community support resources.
  • Monitor, receive, stock, and distribute respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders.
  • Maintain storage areas with required supply levels and equipment.
  • Disassemble, clean, and sterilize equipment, performing preventative maintenance and calibration of machines.
  • Participate in routine maintenance of equipment and ensure proper functioning of therapeutic equipment.
  • Perform cardio-pulmonary diagnostic studies including ventilatory mechanics and arterial blood sampling.
  • Coordinate and oversee Blood Gas and Pulmonary Function Laboratories, ensuring adequate supply levels and equipment maintenance.
  • Develop QA/PI measures for the Respiratory Therapy Department.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Respiratory Care Practitioner Program required.
  • BS/BA degree in Education, Management, or Respiratory Care desirable.
  • Three years experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, including critical care and diagnostic labs.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required or within six months of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required or within six months of hire.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification required or within six months of hire or transfer.
  • Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (RRT).
  • Licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Preferred experience with a lead role in at least one of the Diagnostic Labs.
  • Preferred experience in developing QA/PI measures for the department.
