About the position

The Respiratory Therapist at Advocate Aurora Health is responsible for providing and coordinating comprehensive respiratory care to patients. This role involves administering respiratory care procedures, utilizing evidence-based practices, and ensuring the safety and well-being of patients across various care settings. The therapist will work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to enhance patient experiences and outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Administer respiratory care procedures and modalities according to established standards and policies.
  • Support patient assessment using pulmonary diagnostics, chest radiographs, and laboratory values.
  • Operate specialized ventilators in both critical and non-critical care settings.
  • Assist physicians with bedside procedures as applicable.
  • Provide medication treatments and therapies as prescribed by physicians.
  • Maintain and ensure proper functionality of respiratory equipment, troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Educate and instruct patients on therapy techniques, self-care, and disease management.
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide education on patient management.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Promote a culture of safety by applying proper safety measures and reporting safety events.

Requirements

  • Active Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license issued by the state of practice.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential from the NBRC.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Graduate from an accredited respiratory care program with a minimum of an associate degree.
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including use of electronic medical record systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan.
