About the position

Under the direction of the Director of Respiratory Services, the Respiratory Care Therapist will administer treatments, perform patient assessments and management of home care, diagnostic evaluations and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system, and assist with the staff education and departmental quality assurances program. Key functions of the position address the population served by the department include neonates, through geriatrics.

Responsibilities

  • Promptly deliver aerosolized medication, oxygen therapy, and volume expansion therapy upon receipt of physician's order.
  • Initiate non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilation as required.
  • Document all required information in patients' charts.
  • Participate in all CPR events.
  • Make arrangements with DME companies for patients' respiratory care needs at home.
  • Perform after hours EKGs and PFTs as needed.
  • Clean any needed equipment and keep it in ready condition.
  • Provide patient/family education as well as staff education when needed.
  • Maintain a positive, friendly working attitude.

Requirements

  • Experience in aerosolized medication delivery per nebulizer.
  • Knowledge of oxygen therapy per nasal cannula with SPO2 monitoring.
  • Ability to perform volume expansion therapy and use incentive spirometers.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
