About the position

In addition, MercyOne North Iowa is a teaching institution. We conduct a Family Medicine Residency, Internal Medicine Residency, Cardiology Fellowship, Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship, PGY1 Pharmacy Residency and a School of Radiologic Technology. MercyOne North Iowa is a clinical training site for approximately 500 students from 127 different colleges enrolled in programs for medical laboratory, nursing, paramedic, rehabilitation, medical assistants, pastoral services, physicians and many other medical fields. Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Respiratory Therapist.

Responsibilities

  • Administer routine respiratory care to all pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Perform incentive spirometry, aerosol therapy, oxygen therapy, pulmonary drainage procedures, BIPAP/CPAP, ventilator management, therapeutic bronchoscopy, co-oximetry, EKG, Holter, Zio, intubation assist, extubation, blood gas, outpatient testing, and suctioning following interpretation of physician order.
  • Assess patients receiving Respiratory Care using bedside assessment technique and knowledge of indications, contraindications, hazards of the above procedures and actions/reactions of medications being given.
  • Respond to and be team members of the resuscitation and rapid response pages.
  • Perform basic spirometry procedures, electrocardiograms, arterial blood gas sampling and analysis.
  • Provide patient education and assist with community events dealing with Respiratory Care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; or associate degree in chemical, physical or biological science required.
  • Graduate of respiratory therapy program required or board-eligible within a few months of graduation as certification is required at hire/transfer.
  • Credentialed by the NBRC at the Certified Respiratory Therapist or Registered Respiratory Therapist level required.
  • Current Respiratory Care Practitioner licensure in the state of Iowa required.
  • CAPRS and N95 fit testing validation within 30 days of hire required.
  • Must have demonstrated competence in Respiratory Care.
  • Must be able to read, write and/or speak English.
