About the position

The Respiratory Therapist II position at UNC Health Care involves providing advanced respiratory care to patients under the direction of department management. This role requires administering various respiratory therapies, managing ventilators, and ensuring patient safety and comfort. The therapist will work in a dynamic environment, potentially covering shifts during days, nights, and weekends, and will be responsible for maintaining high standards of care and knowledge in respiratory practices.

Responsibilities

• Administers standard Respiratory Care including aerosol medication delivery, basic bedside pulmonary function testing, and oxygen therapy.
• Provides airway management including aspiration of established airways, tracheostomy care, and endotracheal intubations.
• May perform Pulmonary Function Testing as needed.
• Sets up and verifies function of ventilators, monitoring patients and providing appropriate weaning techniques.
• Maintains and improves job knowledge and skills, functioning independently with minimal supervision.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
• Current certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) required.
• At least two (2) years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
• Must have at least one of the following certifications: ACLS, NRP, PALS, CPFT, or advanced practice certificate for moderate sedation.
