About the position
The Respiratory Therapist (RRT) at Mercyhealth plays a crucial role in providing respiratory care under the direction of a physician. This position involves administering both routine and complex respiratory procedures across various patient populations, including pediatrics and critical care. The RRT is responsible for critical care interventions, airway management, and the operation of ventilators, all while embodying the organization's mission and values.
Responsibilities
- Initiate, monitor, evaluate, and wean invasive and non-invasive ventilation.
- Make parameter recommendations based on clinical assessment and patient status.
- Provide ongoing evaluation of treatment regimes including medication delivery and oxygen administration.
- Assess patients clinically before and after the administration of any medication or procedure.
- Monitor, assess, educate, and document patient and family therapies and equipment usage.
- Demonstrate competence in the setup and troubleshooting of mechanical ventilators and non-invasive devices.
- Respond to emergent care situations and assist with resuscitation efforts.
- Transport patients on mechanical ventilators to intrahospital procedures and testing.
- Provide developmentally appropriate care to various patient populations.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program.
- Certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT).
- CPR and ACLS certification within 6 months of hire.
- NRP certification within 90 days of orientation for applicable departments.
- IL and/or WI Respiratory Care Practitioner license.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for those driving personal vehicles.
