About the position

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) PRN at Baylor Scott & White Health is responsible for managing and treating patients with advanced knowledge of the cardiopulmonary system. This role involves administering various respiratory care services, optimizing patient care, and ensuring adherence to established protocols and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and directs the administration of respiratory care services as ordered by the attending physician.
  • Administers cardiopulmonary resuscitation in emergency situations.
  • Reviews physician's orders and examines patient's diagnostic test results to provide appropriate therapy.
  • Implements approved protocols as directed by the physician.
  • Performs routine and advanced respiratory therapy prioritizing patient needs.
  • Instructs patients in the use of various respiratory care equipment.
  • Assesses patient response to therapy and coaches the patient to improve technique.
  • Documents all treatments and therapies given and accurately files all corresponding charges.
  • Reports outcomes of therapeutic interventions and makes recommendations as appropriate.
  • Adheres to established policies including infection control and HIPAA regulations.
  • Works professionally with other employees and healthcare professionals.
  • Takes responsibility for completing professional or technical requirements set by leadership.
  • Incorporates continuous quality improvement in clinical care.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification.
  • Less than 1 year of experience in respiratory therapy.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire or transfer.
  • Licensed by the State of Texas Medical Board as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP).
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board of Respiratory Care.

Nice-to-haves

  • General knowledge of Respiratory Care modalities, therapies, equipment, and medications.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow flow chart protocols.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • General computer skills including data entry and electronic medical documentation.
