About the position

The position of Respiratory Therapist involves working under general direction to set up and operate various types of respiratory care equipment. This role is crucial in performing or assisting with procedures that are utilized in the diagnosis or treatment of cardiopulmonary diseases or illnesses. The therapist will be responsible for ensuring that all equipment is functioning properly and that patients receive the appropriate care based on their specific respiratory needs. This may include monitoring patients' vital signs, administering medications, and providing education to patients and their families about respiratory health and treatments. The therapist will also collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement effective treatment plans tailored to individual patient needs. Additionally, the role may require the therapist to stay updated on the latest advancements in respiratory care and participate in ongoing training and education to maintain licensure and certification.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate various types of respiratory care equipment.
  • Perform or assist with procedures utilized in the diagnosis or treatment of cardiopulmonary disease or illness.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs and respiratory status.
  • Administer medications as prescribed by physicians.
  • Educate patients and their families about respiratory health and treatments.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop treatment plans.
  • Ensure all equipment is functioning properly and safely.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an American Medical Association (AMA) approved school of Respiratory Care.
  • BLS Certified or certified-eligible by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Licensed by the Alabama State Board of Respiratory Therapy.
  • If not certified by NBRC, must obtain certification by expiration of Temporary License date.
  • ACLS certification may be required in designated areas as determined by administration.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate degree or BS degree in Respiratory Science.
  • Registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
